William Allen Forbes of Macclenny passed away Sunday, March 17, 2024 at the Macclenny Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 95. He was born in Arcadia on September 9, 1928 to the late Oscar and Myrtle (Surrency) Forbes. “Bill” would go on to proudly serve his country in the United States Air Force, reaching the rank of Corporal, working as a radar repairman. After his honorable discharge, Mr. Forbes would go on to work for the railroad for over thirty five years.
Bill was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Macclenny, Dawkins #60. He was also a firearms collector and was a proud member of the NRA. He loved to keep a garden and tend to his land. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years. Mr. Forbes was also a longtime member of Cornerstone Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and a nephew: Michael Forbes.
He is survived by his beloved wife of seventy six years, Ruby “Irene” Forbes of Macclenny; nieces and nephews: Johnny Forbes, Debbie Forbes, Mary Forbes, Bobby Forbes, and Douglas Forbes; as well as a host of close friends and neighbors.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Forbes, Jackie Smith, Ethan Rafuse, Randy Rafuse, Steve Reader, and Hunter Rafuse.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Forbes Funeral Home with Rev. Eddy Sanders officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow at Manntown Cemetery.
