Mr. William Ray Combs, age 83 of Sanderson, passed away Thursday, February 19, 2015. A devoted father and friend, Mr. Combs believed in working hard to provide for his family and friends. He was a US Navy Veteran, received a National Defense Service Medal, and was proud to have served his country. He was a retired heavy equipment operator and a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 673. Mr. Combs was a lifelong Baker county resident and enjoyed farming and fishing. He generously shared his harvest with his friends and neighbors and he especially loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife: Alma Combs; sons: Marcus "Buddy" (Kristi) Combs of Macclenny and Robert "Doug" (Tina) Long of Oregon; daughters: Lawana Harvey of Macclenny, Marsha (Tom) Bates of Taylor, and Susan (Earl) Harris of Macclenny; sisters: Arie Gwendolyn (Ed) Dewitt and Mary Carolyn Parish all of Macclenny and Debbie (Jerry) Griffis of Baldwin; eighteen grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents: Orie and Reather Williams Combs; brothers: Marcus Harold Combs and Raymond Lonnie Combs and sister: Joann Thourot. Funeral services will be held 11:00am, Monday, February 23, 2015 at Taylor Church, Taylor, Florida with Reverend Al Dorminey officiating. Interment will follow at Taylor Cemetery.
