Mr. Virgil W. Manning, age 74 of Manning, passed away Sunday, September 6, 2015. Mr. Manning was born in Manning to the late J.C. and Essie Dugger Manning. He was a lifelong Baker County resident and member of Taylor Church in Sanderson. He was a Highway Maintenance Supervisor with the state Department of Transportation for forty four years at the time of his retirement. Mr. Manning enjoyed fishing and hunting, and loved taking his dogs and his grandchildren to the woods. After his retirement he enjoyed farming, raising Black Angus bulls and attending cattle shows. Most valuable to him was the Lord and his family. He never met a stranger and had many friends and family that loved him dearly. He is survived by his wife of twenty five years: Patsy Evone Manning; daughter: Carol Ingram of Lake Butler; step-sons: Paul (Christy) Westmoreland and Eben (Amy) Westmoreland all of Callahan; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Edwin Manning, Melvin Manning, and Cecil Manning; and sisters: Doris Burgin-Odom, Bernice Eckler, and Beatrice Osteen. Funeral services will be held 1:00pm, Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Taylor Church, Sanderson, with Pastor Jim Cox officiating. Burial will follow at South Prong Cemetery, Sanderson. The family will receive friends for lunch and visitation beginning at 11:30am, Thursday at Taylor Church Fellowship Hall.
