Theron Helms of Macclenny passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Ascension St. Vincent’s Clay Hospital at the age of 92.
Theron was born in Hazlehurst, Georgia, the son of the late John and Mattie (Harrell) Helms on February 21, 1931. He spent his youth on the farm. He would eventually settle in Baker County in the 70’s and was the longtime owner of the Twin Bridges Store on the state line. Mr. Helms true passion was antique cars. Over the years he was the owner of dozens of classic vehicles, enjoying restoration and attending car shows in his free time. Theron will be remembered as family man who loved his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; his wife of twenty-nine years and the mother of his sons: Tressye Amelia Young Helms and his wife of nineteen years: Margaret Voorhees Helms.
He leaves behind to cherish years of memories: sons: Troy (Joy) Helms and Steven Helms both of Macclenny; step-children: Martha Anne (Darrell) Giddens of Bryceville and Rick (Susan) Voorhees of Glen St. Mary; grandchildren: Callihan (Delaney) Helms, Ellie (Aaron) Farmer, Woodrow Jackson Helms, Rosemary Helms, Hudson Helms, Ruby Helms, Ashley (Joshua) Potts, Adam (Sarah) Giddens, RJ (Casey) Voorhees, and Alison Voorhees; thirteen great-grandchildren; sister: Marilyn Blackburn of Jacksonville; as well as a host of extended family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at 12:00 PM at First Assembly of God Macclenny with Pastor Joshua Potts officiating and Rev. Chas Rowland assisting. The family will be receiving friends at 11:00 AM at the church. Interment will follow services at Macedonia Cemetery.
