Sherman John Drawdy, a lifelong resident of Baker County and a proud Vietnam Veteran, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Ed Fraser Memorial Hospital, age 83. Sherman was born to Mr. Sherman Lewis and Maisy (Burnett) Drawdy on August 9, 1941. He would join the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. Following an honorable discharge from the Army, Mr. Drawdy would go to work for the Florida Department of Corrections, dedicating thirty five years of his life to the Florida State Prison.

Sherman loved to be outdoors in his down time, loved to go fishing and kept a well manicured lawn. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He and his wife were longtime members of Christian Fellowship Temple and spent the last few years as members of Road to Calvary.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Drawdy of Macclenny; children, John Drawdy of Nashville, Tennessee, Joseph Drawdy of Kentucky, Deborah (Christopher) Chessman of Taylor, and Alan Harper of Glen St. Mary; grandchildren, Jake Drawdy, Luke Drawdy, Dwayne Combs, Brigdon Chessman, Brandy Mills, Kara Harper, Savannah Harper, Marcus Harper, and Michael Combs; great-grandchildren, Jaxton, Kendall, Payton, Dixiee, Michael Jr., Gavin, Elana, Carley, and Wrenley; a sister, Mittie Ann Roberts of North Carolina; as well as extended family members and friends.

A funeral service to honor Mr. Sherman’s life will be held Thursday, February 27, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Road to Calvary Church with Pastor Tommy Anderson and Rev. David Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior at the church, beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
