It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Otis Varnes, who departed this life peacefully on January 1, 2025, at the age of 84. A beloved husband, father, brother, papa, and friend, Otis was known for his faithfulness, kindness, and unwavering commitment to his faith and family.
Born on February 25, 1940, Otis grew up in Lakeland, FL, and became a cherished resident of Baker County for over 40 years. He dedicated his career to Miller Electric, where he retired after many years of service, was a proud member of the IBEW Union for over 60 years, and was the owner of the Macedonia Store for 23 years. Through his hard work and dedication, he made a lasting impact on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Otis was a man of deep faith and a devoted family member, always ready to lend a helping hand whenever needed. He cherished his family above all, creating lasting memories through mountain trips, working on projects, and hunting.
He is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie Varnes; daughters, Lisa Mobley (Wayne) and Ginger Varnes; sons, Gerald Ray Rhoden (Trish) and Scotty Rhoden (Tara); and his brother, Stanley Varnes. Otis was a proud grandfather to Jerrod Rhoden (Haley), Kristen Gruentzel (Jason), Jud Rhoden (Vanessa), Dalicia Davis (Kyle), Emily Martin (Jr.), Gracie Crews (Kyler), Katherine Noblitt (Hunter), Teagan Rhoden, Rhett Rhoden, Krystal Varnes, Stephanie Varnes, and Christopher Varnes. He was also blessed with eighteen great grandchildren.
Otis was preceded in death by his parents, Lucile Crotts Varnes and Oren Varnes, as well as his daughter, Laura Varnes.
Otis Varnes will be deeply missed but fondly remembered. His life was a testament to love, perseverance, and faith, and his memory will forever remain a blessing to all who knew him.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Mobley, Jerrod Rhoden, Jud Rhoden, Rhett Rhoden, Kyle Davis, and Jason Gruentzel.
A celebration of Otis’s life will be held on January 5, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Christian Fellowship Temple with Rev. David Griffis and Pastor David Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends at Christian Fellowship Temple beginning at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at Macedonia Cemetery with Rev. Eddie Griffis officiating. Friends and family are invited to gather to honor his memory.
