Ms. Naomi (Crews) Roberson, age 77, entered the presence of her Lord on Tuesday, April 12, 2016. Though she was a lifelong Baker County resident, Naomi resided in San Diego, California, with her daughter and son-in-law since June of last year due to her battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS). Those who know her are aware that her family and friends were her life, and she loved Baker County fiercely. Naomi taught in the Baker County School System for thirty-seven years, and the thousands of children and young adults whose lives she touched during that time were very precious to her. She was always heavily involved with community events, especially those sponsored by the Baker County Historical Society. She was honored on two occasions to be appointed by the governor of the state of Florida to serve on the Baker County School Board in an interim capacity, and she worked tirelessly on behalf of the young people of Baker County during those times of service. She also was a member of several city government boards and considered the work she did in that capacity a privilege and a service to the people of Baker County. You didn't have to know Naomi very long or very well to know that her Baker heritage was a gift she treasured. Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, Raiford and Mirtie (Rhoden) Crews and one brother, James Norris Crews. Naomi is survived by her only child, Angie (Mike) Zachary, three grandchildren & three great-grandchildren, Michael (Mary Kate) Zachary, John and Isabelle; Elizabeth (Richard) Layson; and Brad (Jenna) Zachary and Henry. She is also survived by her three sisters, Virginia Combs, Mirtie (Leo) Hoover, and Norma (Jerry) Milton. Naomi had a great capacity to love that extended to her many nieces and nephews as well as to great and great great nieces and nephews in both the Crews and Roberson families; all of these loved ones will remember her as a listening ear and someone who loved them and prayed for them as if they were her own. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Christian Fellowship Temple, 251 W. Ohio Avenue, Macclenny, with Pastors David and Timmy Thomas and Reverend Donnie Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Taylor Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the church. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Forbes Funeral Home, Macclenny, 904.259.4600.
