Mr. Michael Dewayne Long, age 48 of Macclenny passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018.
Michael was born on October 2, 1970 in Jacksonville to the late Mr. Timothy Long and Ms. Julia Taylor.
He lived most of his life in Jacksonville before moving to Macclenny eight years ago.
Mr. Long was a hard working man who was willing to give a helping hand to anyone in need and was a friend to everyone who knew him. His children described him as "dependable", willing to drop whatever he was doing to help them with the smallest of tasks. For the last thirty five years, he worked for Lighthouse Development as a contractor and was known to be a "jack of all trades".
When not working, Michael enjoyed the outdoors, especially kayaking and fishing. His daughters said he was a very quotable man and would often laugh at his own jokes. He was a member of "Discord", a "Pokémon Go" club that he founded with his friends. He could also be found working on cars in his free time. He will be remembered as a loving father and will be missed by many.
Michael is survived by his daughters: Taylor (Edaj) Jackson of Coppell, Texas and Kayla Long of Macclenny; girlfriend: Michelle Williams and her son: Jace Harvey of Macclenny; stepchildren: Kyle, Reed and Hala Williams all of Macclenny; sister: Brenda Finley of Jacksonville; nephew: Lee Metze of Jacksonville; and aunt: Joyce Turner of Jacksonville.
Mr. Long is preceded in death by his parents, his grandfather: Julian Taylor, and his sister Melba Metze and her husband Lewis.
A Celebration of Michael's life will be held Tuesday, October 30, 2018 from 5:00-8:00 pm at the home of his employer, 1727 Cedar Bay Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32218.
