Mary Lee Chessman, 91, a native and longtime resident of Baker County, passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2024 at her home surrounded by family. Mary was born on October 21, 1933 in Baxter to the late Mr. Morris and Mamie (Anderson) Crews. Mary Lee would live in Duval County for many years before coming back to Baker County in 1992. She enjoyed traveling, especially to the Smokey Mountains and Disney World. She liked tending to her flowers and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LuClare Chessman; siblings, Thomas Crews, Betty Lyons, Irma Jean Anderson, and Sarah Burnsed; and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Chessman.
She leaves behind her children, Phillip (Darlene) Chessman and Christopher (Deborah) Chessman both of Taylor, Zoe Donna (Tommy) Crews of Cuyler, Belinda Wilson of Jacksonville, and Darryl Chessman of Glen St. Mary; fifteen grandchildren; fifty one great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and a host of extended family members and friends.
The family will receive friends Sunday, December 29, 2024 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the chapel of Guerry Forbes Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 30, 2024 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Macclenny with Pastor John Schultz officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
