Mr. Marvin D. "Honey Bee" Barnes Sr., age 81 of Glen St. Mary, Florida, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2017. A sixty year Baker County resident, he was born in Omega, Tift County, Georgia and grew up in Homerville, Georgia. Mr. Barnes was a member of the original Clinch County High School Panthers football team, wearing jersey #44. He was a fan of football his entire life but the 1972 Miami Dolphins team was his favorite. Growing up in Homerville, he learned the art of beekeeping which would become his lifelong occupation and how he came to be known as "Honey Bee". Mr. Barnes enjoyed fishing, dove hunting, and attending church at Clay Hill Church of God, where he was a member. He had a passion for flying and held an active pilot's license for over twenty five years. He loved his family and spending time with them. He is survived by his son: Marvin D. "Bubba" Barnes Jr. of Glen St. Mary; daughter: Audrey (O.D.) Rewis of Glen St. Mary; grandchildren: Deanna Rewis McDuffie of Macclenny, Chris (Cheryl) Rewis of Glen St. Mary, Kayona (Dan) Hoard of Macclenny, Casey Barnes (Josh) of Glen St. Mary; Brad Thrift of Macclenny, Ashley Barnes and Marcus Barnes both of Glen St. Mary. Thirteen great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife of forty eight years: Marthann Landrum Barnes; daughter: Terry Lee Barnes; infant son: Alan Barnes; and parents: Dorsey and Lula Wood Barnes. Funeral services will be held 4:00pm, Saturday, May 27, 2017 in the chapel of Forbes Funeral Home with Reverend Jeff Crawley and Reverend Tommy Richardson officiating. Burial will follow at Macedonia Cemetery, Macclenny. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:30pm at the funeral home, the day of the service.
