Kenneth Toneia Thornton, Sr.

Kenneth Toneia Thornton, Sr., a longtime Baker County resident passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024 at the Custead Care Center at the age of 85. The son of Ralph and Melba (Sparkman) Thornton, he was born in Raiford on June 27, 1939. Kenneth was a hardworking man with a variety of talents, spending time during his life in the roofing industry, as well as working a nursing assistant with multiple nursing facilities and at the Northeast Florida State Hospital.

Kenneth enjoyed a simple life, revolving around being outdoors. He loved hunting and fishing. He also raised pitbulls and was an avid Florida Gator fan.

Kenneth leaves behind his wife of sixty-two years, Beverly Thornton of Macclenny; children, Vanessa (Mike) Smith and Billy (Henry) Thornton of Jacksonville, Kennth (Tammie) Thornton, Jr. of Taylor, and Jennipher (Tommy) Phillips of Macclenny; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Robin Martell of Taylor; as well as a host of extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at 10:00 AM at South Prong Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the chapel of Forbes Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
