James Paul Raulerson, 85, of Glen St. Mary, Florida, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and loyal friend, passed away peacefully at his home on his cherished farm, surrounded by his loving family.
Paul was born on July 2, 1939, and lived a life of unwavering dedication to his family, faith, country, and community. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Raulerson and Beulah Prevatt Raulerson Pagonis; his sister, Jeanette Conner (Floyd); and his beloved Uncle Amos Raulerson and Aunt Ada Bennett Raulerson. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, JudyCooke Raulerson, and their children: Paulette English (Tip), Sherrie Raulerson (Eric), Doug Raulerson (Reneé), and Danna Kay Schaper (Steve). Paul was the proud grandfather of nine: Erica Raulerson Pride (Austin), Ellen English Huckaba (Jeremy), Kailee Raulerson Trippett (Joshua), Michael Stewart (Kelsey), Tyler Schaper (Ashley), Will English (Jenna), Hannah Schaper Pitman (Harrison), Caitlin Raulerson, and Jamie-Lynne Raulerson. His legacy of love continues through his great-grandchildren: Anistyn, Harbor, and Davis Pride; Caroline and Hunter James Huckaba (due in March); Obed and Amos Trippett; Caden Kinghorn and Khloe Stewart; and Liam English.
Paul graduated from Baker County High School in 1957, where he was a four-year Wildcat football player, team captain, and an All-Conference honoree. His leadership extended beyond the field, serving as Class President, and being named "Best All-Around Senior." Shortly after graduation, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Army in 1957. As a proud member of the 101st Airborne Division, the "Screaming Eagles," he served as a paratrooper at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and in Munich, Germany. In May of 1960, he married the love of his life, Judy Cooke of Hamlin, Virginia, and together they built a beautiful life in Baker County.
Paul’s tireless work ethic was evident throughout his life, holding positions with Seaboard Coastline Railroad, Florida Power & Light, A&R Construction, and Guerry Funeral Home. He was a bus driver for the Baker County School District and a commercial chicken farmer. A true servant leader, he was elected by his community to serve three terms as a Baker County School Board member. His passion for education and youth development extended to his roles as President of the PTA, President of the Band Parents Association, and President of the Lions Club. He was also a charter member of the local Jaycees chapter.
A man of faith, Paul lived his life as a testament to generosity, integrity, and kindness. As a father, he lovingly instilled Christian values in his children, ensuring that from an early age, their lives were firmly rooted in faith, guiding them with wisdom, love, and devotion. He found great joy in farming, tending to his cattle, and nurturing his garden—always eager to share the fruits of his labor with others. Paul and his wife, Judy, enjoyed hosting their old-fashioned cane grinding event, which brought friends, family, and community together. This annual tradition was eagerly anticipated, offering a special time for adults to reminisce while children discovered the timeless art of syrup making.
Papa Paul lived life to the fullest—adventurous, patriotic, and deeply devoted to his family. His magnetic personality, infectious positivity, and selfless spirit touched all who knew him. A true Samaritan, he never hesitated to lend a helping hand to those in need. He found great joy in traveling, experiencing the beauty of the world alongside his loved ones. His journeys took him across the beautiful USA that he loved, and around the globe—including Germany, Italy, Monaco, France, Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Canada, and Kenya.
Paul Raulerson’s legacy is one of love, faith, service, and steadfast dedication to his family and community. His absence leaves an unfillable void, but his memory will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know him.
