Mr. James W. "Jim" Watkins, age 63 of Jacksonville, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2017. He was the only child of the late Edgar and Jamesetta F. Watkins. Mr. Watkins was a United States Navy Veteran who served as a salvage diver. After his military service he spent over thirty years as a truck driver, and accumulated over three million miles on the road. He was very knowledgeable about many things; so much so that his family lovingly called him "a jack of all trades and master of none". Mr. Watkins had a heart for people and never met a stranger. He loved helping his neighbors and providing care packages for homeless veterans and others in need. He was a very patriotic man and greatly appreciated all of God's creation. He also believed in letting people know he loved him, in words and actions. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and working in his yard. He is survived by his wife: Sherry Watkins; his "fur baby": Pearly May, the cat; his "parents", who took him in after the tragic loss of his own: Austin and Dorothy Browning of Jacksonville; brothers: Craig, Gary, and Dale Browning, all of Jacksonville; sister-in-law: Terry Brown of Baker, Louisiana; and numerous friends and church family. A celebration of his life will be held 6:00pm, Monday, September 18, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Maxville, where Mr. Watkins was a member. Pastor Richard Fish will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Forbes Funeral Home, Macclenny. 904-259-4600.
