James Allan Milton, Age 93 of Macclenny, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 9, 2024 at the Frank Wells Nursing Home. Mr. Milton was born June 21, 1930 in Macclenny to the late Quentin Theodore Milton and Ida Mae (Dugger) Milton. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his beloved wife Ruth Ann (Crowder) Milton, his sisters: Marion Lyons, Mary Lou Cole, Brenda Joyce Milton, and Sharon Chaisson, and his only brother: Gary Milton.
Allan graduated from Macclenny High School and shortly thereafter enlisted in the United States Navy. During his time in the Navy, he served at sea aboard the destroyer, US Hamner and the battleship, US New Jersey and was a combat veteran of the Korean War.
On April 10, 1954, Allan married the love of his life, Ruth Ann. He continued to serve in the Navy until his discharge in November of 1955. Using his veteran benefits, Allan went on to attend and earn a business degree from Jones College. It was during this time he also started working with the United States Postal Service in Jacksonville. In 1961, he transferred to the Macclenny Post Office and continued to work there until his retirement in March of 1990.
Allan and Ann relocated their family from Whitehouse to Macclenny after his transfer to the Macclenny Post Office. They continued to make Macclenny their home and were active, longtime members of the Faith Baptist Church.
Mr. Milton is survived by his daughter: Robin Milton (Steven) Ray; two sons: Mark Allan (Terri) Milton and Quentin Austin (Selina) Milton all of Macclenny; ten grandchildren: Felicia Milton Yarborough, Mandy Ray Crews, Britt Allan Milton, Stefanie Ray Horne, Jennifer Milton Royal, Brian Mark Milton, Matthew Steven Ray, Joshua Dupree, Jacob Austin Milton, and Trace Allan Milton; fourteen great-grandchildren: Garrett and Dawson Yarborough, Cody, Cason, and Camber Milton, Avery Royal, Gracie, Waylon, Bentley and Baxley Milton, Alyssa and Averi Crews, Mattilyn and Chattham Ray, and baby Judson Ray due in May; and three great-great grandchildren: Maddox and Marlow Yarborough and Teagan Milton.
Pallbearers will be his grandson, Britt Milton, Brian Milton, Matthew Ray, Jacob Milton, Trace Milton, and Joshua Dupree.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 15, 2024 in the chapel of Forbes Funeral Home. The family will receive friends in the chapel beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Macedonia Cemetery with military honors to be rendered.
