James David Manning, Sr. age 68 of Macclenny passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at Ascension St. Vincent’s Hospital Clay County. He was born in Lake City to the late Sylvester and Maxine (Hodges) Manning on October 6, 1952, and was a lifelong resident of Baker County. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He would work in landscaping for many years and would even own his own business for some time. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. Spending time with family was one of his favorite things to do. He was always making them laugh and was the master of cheesy “dad jokes”. He enjoyed reading his bible and loved to write songs.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: Jimmy Ellis; and his beloved wife of thirty-nine years: Mrs. Hilda Manning.
He is survived by his children: James “David” Manning Jr. of Macclenny, Derek (Beth) Manning of Sanderson, and Denise (David) Durham of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; grandchildren: Austin (Taylor) Manning, Kaleb Manning, Brylee Durham, and Blakely Durham; brothers: Johnny (Bernice) Manning and Wayne Manning of Macclenny; sisters: Janice Sanford of Starke, Jeanie (Calvin) Edwards of Moniac, and Janet “Cookie” (Tommy) Lauramore of Macclenny; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday, July 10, 2021, 5:00 PM at South Prong Cemetery with Rev. Jay Baker officiating, where he will be laid to rest beside his loving wife, Mrs. Hilda. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, July 9, 2021, in the chapel of Forbes Funeral Home.
