JN Canaday, a lifelong resident of Baxter passed away at his home on Saturday, November 2, 2024 with family by his side. He was 79 years old. JN was born on December 31, 1945 to the late Mr. Gus and Nova (Burnsed) Canaday, one of nine children. He graduated from Baker County High School and would work for the Terminal Bag Company for over 35 years before retirement.
JN loved to spend his free time in the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, being a longtime member of Buckhorn Hunting Club in Moniac and Moccasin Creek Hunting Club. He enjoyed keeping up his yard and putting his grandkids to work. He also enjoyed his country music. He will be remembered as a loving family man who treasured time spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Claude Canaday, Tony Canaday, Seaf Rhoden, Lucille Prescott, and Shirley Davis; a grandson, Travis Lee Stokes; and two children, Orbey Riley Canaday and Nova Theresa Galway.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Sue (Rhoden) Canaday of Baxter; daughters, Judy (Manley) Rewis of Cuyler and Melinda Canaday Stokes of Baxter; seven grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and sisters, Reatha Mae (Woodrow) Burnsed, Jackie (Vernon) Harvey, and Donelle Munson.
Visitation will be held at Baxter Community Baptist Church on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM with Rev. Chance Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at North Prong Cemetery.
