Henry Gee Smith

Reverend Henry Gee Smith Jr., age 85 of Crawfordville, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2016. He was born in Tallahassee to the late Henry Gee and Jannie Boutwell Smith Sr. After serving in the United States Navy, Mr. Smith became the founding pastor of the Tallahassee Congregational Holiness Church. He was also a former pastor of the Otter Creek Community Church in Otter Creek. He was a carpenter by trade and retired after twenty two years as a maintenance supervisor at the Florida Highway Patrol Academy. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and telling jokes. He loved his family and enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Above all, he loved the Lord. He is survived by his wife of sixty one years: Rochelle Taylor Smith; daughters: Janie (Billy) Harper, Jeannie (Larry) Hallstrom, Lanie (Fred) Williamson, and Lynn (Mark) Hudson, all of Crawfordville; sisters: Ethel Parker and Ruby Smith of Crawfordville; brothers-in-law: Amos (Rita) Taylor and Reverend Ricky (Kathy) Taylor all of Tallahassee, Robert (MaryAnn) Taylor and Mitchell (Rhonda) Taylor all of Panacea, and Reverend Steve (Liz) Taylor of Crawfordville; sisters-in-law: Dorothy (Reverend Michael) Hall and Wanda (John) Lynn all of Crawfordville; thirteen grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son: David Smith, great grandson: Hunter Revell, brother: Buddy Smith, and brother-in-law: Guy Taylor. A celebration of his life will be held 11:00am, Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Otter Creek Community Church, Otter Creek, Florida with his nephew, Elder Bruce Taylor and Reverend Delbert Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Panacea Cemetery, Panacea, Florida. The family will receive friends 6-8:00pm, Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Otter Creek Community Church.
