Elizabeth Taylor

Ms. Elizabeth "Betty" G. Taylor, age 64 of Macclenny, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2015. Born in Ocala, to the late Edgar and Colleen Smothers Greene, Ms. Taylor was a lifelong Baker County resident and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Macclenny. Having obtained her teaching degree at the University of West Florida, she returned to Baker County and spent the next thirty seven years in the local school system. She was instrumental in establishing the Business Academy at Baker County High School and was named Teacher of the Year for the 2000-2001 school year. Having majored in theater, Ms. Taylor enjoyed acting and performing in local community theaters. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and enjoyed reading and travelling. She also loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her great nieces and nephews whom she loved as if they were her own grandchildren. She is survived by her nephews: Clifford "John" Blakely Jr. of Melbourne, Florida and Jim (Allie) Blakely of St. Augustine; niece (in love): Brenda (Eric) Kinghorn of Glen St. Mary; brother-in-law: Phil (Sandy) Taylor of Longwood, Florida; sisters-in-law: Elizabeth "Betty" Sands of Macclenny, Sandra (Doug) Gifford of Tallahassee, and Frances (Jessie) Stokely of Pearland, TX; and great nieces and nephews: Jimmy, Bailey, Gabe, Tatum, Aayden, Crystal, Erica, and Caden. She was preceded in death by her husband: Terry Michael Taylor; parents: Edgar and Colleen Greene; brother and sister-in-law: John and Tonnie Blakely Sr.; and father and mother-in-law: Philip and Irene Taylor. Funeral services will be held 10:00am, Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at First United Methodist Church of Macclenny with Pastor Don Thompson and Reverend Joe Nathan Ruise officiating. Burial will follow at Taylor Cemetery, Sanderson. The family will receive friends 6-8:00pm, Monday, April 27, 2015 at the church. A scholarship, in Ms. Taylor's memory, has been established to benefit a Baker County High School senior. Contributions can be made to Country Federal Credit Union, S. 6th Street, Macclenny.
