Mr. Edward Russell Carter Sr., age 65 of Jacksonville, passed away Monday, September 12, 2016. Born in Macclenny to the late Charles and Doris Starling Carter, Mr. Carter spent most of his childhood in Baker County. He was a proud U.S. Army Veteran and served in Vietnam. He spent many years as a truck driver and a crane operator. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, being outdoors, and watching Florida Gator football. Mr. Carter was known for his kind and generous heart and would help anyone who needed it. He dearly loved his wife and family. He is survived by his wife: Becky Carter of Jacksonville; sons: Gary Russell Carter of Jacksonville and Edward Russell Carter Jr. of Albany, GA; daughters: Tonya Michelle (Martez Thompson) Carter of Albany, GA and Lacie (Buddy Crews) Norman of Lawtey; and aunts: Bonita Kauffman of Glen St. Mary and Joyce Hodges of Orange Park. Five grandchildren and numerous other family members also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Gerald Carter, Robert Carter Sr., and Mark Carter Sr.; and sister: Michelle Carter. A celebration of his life will be held 2:00pm, Friday, September 16, 2016 in the chapel at Forbes Funeral Home with Reverend David Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.Interment will take place at Jacksonville National Cemetery at a later date.
