Ms. Edith "Granny" Merrett, age 94 of St. George, Georgia, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2017. She was born in Texas to the late John and Josephine Keen Cochran. She was a resident of Jacksonville before moving to St. George more than fifty years ago. Ms. Merrett retired from Winn Dixie and was a member of the Scottish Chapter 295 Order of the Eastern Star. She was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting and cooking for her family. She had a hand in raising not only her own children and grandchildren, but many of the neighborhood children as well, and was affectionately known as "Granny". She will be remembered as the matriarch of her family and for her ability to save money by "stashing" it in multiple hiding places. She is survived by her son: James Merrett of Pikeville, TN; grandsons: Chuck (Tina) Merrett and Dwayne (Ann) Merrett, all of St. George and Leroy Sweat of Sanderson; eleven great grandchildren, and fifteen great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-three years: James W. Merrett; son: John Merrett, and her great granddaughter: Maranda Merrett.
