Charles Gregory "Charlie Red" Hicks, 67 of Macclenny passed away Monday, August 5, 2019 at his residence after an extended illness.

Charles was born and raised in Macclenny. He is the son of the late William Orie "Bud" Hicks Jr. and Mary Elsie (Magargle) Hicks.

Mr. Hicks honorably served his country in the United States Coast Guard as a machinery technician and fireman. He was very proud of his time there.
He later retired from the U.S. Civil Service at the Naval Air Rework Facility, Naval Air Station, Jacksonville.

Building and tinkering was his life at work and at home. He would often work long hours and then come home only to work for several more hours in his workshop. He had a passion for anything that went fast and was a talented mechanic. He worked on anything and everything from F18 fighter jets to drag bikes. He loved to design and fabricate, and of course he made repairs on thousands of projects during his life. He was also an avid motorcyclist and was a member of several different clubs throughout the years.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents.

He leaves behind his daughters: Stephanie (Rodney) Burhman of Port Orchard, Washington and Mandy (Seth) Rosenberg of Virginia Beach, Virginia; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; twin sister: Diane Hicks Fraser of Macclenny; 5 nephews and nieces; a special aunt: Joan Magargle; and his caregiver/nephew: Walter Kelly "KC" (Stephanie) Crews of Macclenny.

Per his wishes, memorialization will be by cremation.

He will be laid to rest in Jacksonville National Cemetery.
