Mr. Carl E. Johnson Sr., age 76 of Maxville, passed away Monday, February 8, 2016. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved people and never met a stranger. Mr. Johnson was a member and a deacon at Son Rise Missionary Baptist Church in Jacksonville and was known for sharing his love of Jesus with everyone he met. He was a United States Navy veteran, a retired sheet metal worker and a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 435. He was one of the original volunteer firefighters in Maxville. Mr. Johnson was very active in his community and coached little league baseball and Pop Warner football in Baldwin for many years. He played softball for Ray's Metal Works and was very active at the Maxville Senior Center. He had a love for the outdoors, gardening, fishing and hunting. He is survived by his wife: Shirley Johnson; son: Carl (Tiffany) E. Johnson Jr. of Orange Park; daughters: Deborah Johnson of Tallahassee and Carol Williams of Gainesville; brother: Ray (Sue) Burnsed of Waldo; sister: Jeanette (Ray) Long of Naples; five grandchildren, four great grandchildren; and special friends: Linda Ford of Melrose and Mike (Delores) Murray of Keystone Heights. He was preceded in death by his adoptive parents: Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Johnson; foster parents: Arnold and Ruby Harper; and brother: Tommy Bryson. Funeral services will be held 11:00am, Saturday, February 13, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Maxville with Pastor Richard Fish and Reverend Matt Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Long Branch Cemetery, Maxville, Florida. The family will receive friends 6-8:00pm, Friday, February 12, 2016 at the church.
