Betty Gene Edenfield Byrd, 88 of Perry and formerly of Glen St. Mary passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at the Lafayette Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Betty was born February 9, 1932 to the late Mr. Leon and Weeta (Thomas) Edenfield in Union County and graduated from Clinch County High School in 1950. She spent many years as a seamstress, making alterations for people and was well known for her skills. She also spent ten years with the Northeast Florida State Hospital. In her free time, Betty enjoyed crocheting, fishing, and most importantly, spending time with family. She loved to host family and friends at her home and was an outstanding cook. She had numerous toy poodles throughout the years including Button, Muffin, Shiba, and another Button, all whom she adored.
Ms. Betty was a founding member of Road to Calvary Church and served at the church in multiple positions, including church secretary and Sunday school teacher. She played the piano and loved to sing anytime the church doors were open.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Early M. Byrd Sr, sons: Lawrence Walker, John W. Walker, Richard Michael Walker, and Daniel Walker; all of her siblings; a grandson: Paul Walker; and a great-grandson: Donovan Parker.
She is survived by her daughter: Debbie (Jeff) Bryson of Perry; step-son: Larry (Jean) Walker of North Carolina; 11 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Her family will receive friends Monday, July 27, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Road to Calvary Church, Glen St. Mary.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM at the church.
She will be laid to rest at Canaday Cemetery, Moniac, GA.
